Gretchen Mork, author of smooth start phonics, has been teaching reading for forty years, mainly as a volunteer working with the most needy children. She has two grown children and a 14-year-old daughter who has been homeschooled for four years. Gretchen lives with her husband, Fred, in a rural area east of San Francisco.
